Denver Commuter Rail Opening
(Boston, MA) – ACI, the largest privately-held provider of contracted passenger rail services in the United States, today announced that the new 23-mile commuter rail line between downtown Denver Union Station and Denver International Airport officially opened on Friday, April 22, 2016. The Colorado A-line service will be operated and maintained by Denver Transit Operators (DTO), a joint venture of ACI, Fluor and Balfour Beatty Rail, for the next 29 years.
The new line is part of the Eagle P3 Commuter Rail project, which also includes the G Line between Union Station and Wheat Ridge; an initial section of the Northwest Rail Line to South Westminster, called the B Line, and the LEED-Gold-certified Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility (CRMF). DTO will operate and maintain the G and B lines as well.
The $2.2 billion project is the first public-private partnership (P3) railway project of its type to be delivered in the United States. It was awarded by the Denver Regional Transportation District in 2010 to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the new commuter rail lines.
“I am certain that these new services will contribute greatly to future economic growth, improved mobility and better quality of life in the Denver region,” said James F. O’Leary, President of ACI. “We are absolutely committed to providing the type of high quality service that RTD expects and Denver area riders deserve.”
